History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamen_Rider_Double_(character)#Philip
Personality: Philip is by no means 'normal' in that he's been sheltered since the beginning of his life. He's a quiet sort of person, in most circumstances, not a shut-in by choice. He's extremely focused and logical, relying on information for any decisions he makes. This can make him come off as cold or unreceptive, but really, Philip does have a heart in all of that, just neglecting the emotional route when it's necessary. He's compassionate! It's just a strange feeling and harder to relate than data.

He cares most about knowledge-- using the Gaia Library to research any interesting information he comes across. In this, he tends to get a little too into it, way focused and generally trying out in order to fully understand any given topic. For example, when passingly interested in dieting, Philip gained an amazing amount of weight to discover this in depth, trying the methods for himself. It's a bit extreme. He's hard to interrupt or get off-topic while he's on these searches, and many wouldn't be able to deter him because it's automatically become the most important focus he could possibly have. He's useless otherwise, during these, and will stop at nothing to find out exactly what he's looking for.

He's friendly enough, but often distracted by whatever he's reading from the Library to be rather outgoing and cheerful about it. He has his fondness for the radio, mostly Princess Wakana's Radio Show, which he and Shotaro watch together. Shotaro is an important part of Philip's life-- probably the most important. Shotaro's his 'other half,' quite literally in some aspects. While it's necessary for Philip to stay and pretty much hide out, Shotaro is the one that goes out and does things. He's generally Philip's only connection to the 'outside world'-- excepting, of course, when he gets the inclination to actually go out because he needs to see something for himself, in person, et cetera.

Philip views him as his one-and-only partner, and someone he cares a lot about because of that. Shotaro's the body, Philip's the mind, that sort of thing. He provides the push that Philip needs and the half-boiled care for his cold logic. This kind of sounds a lot dependent-- and he does depend on Shotaro-- but essentially their entire point in the series is to be counterpoints to each other as a single Kamen Rider. Shotaro needs Philip too! Regardless.

Philip has been known to, as said before, be generally very dry and dismissive of certain things, but he can't really help it. The range of experiences for him has been a bit traumatic-- in which case he usually kind of shuts down, game over kind of mentality. Still, recently he has been getting better about it and can pick himself up, thanks to the experiences that Shotaro and Akiko have given him. He's actually very caring and will do things that are harmful to himself if it does something better/can provide more for them. Case in point, his Fang transformation makes him go nearly berserk after using it, but when he needed to protect Akiko and Shotaro, he waffled on the decision, then decided he needed to, regardless of previous trauma and going out of control. He's a bit of a mess in those aspects, but he's capable of learning more than just dry facts.

There are a lot of things Philip is very naive of or has trouble processing, simply because he's been isolated for so long, as a result of being protected, or more accurately-- hidden from the Museum for so long. Now, there is no real reason for him to stop going out; he's just not so used to it. Still, he's not paranoid of social situations or approaching people; it's usually just that he will approach them in the most direct manner, not very polite, and doesn't quite understand when they won't directly go through with what he wants.

However, he has come to realize that others offer him, both personally and socially. Since he's gone through the wringer (figuratively and literally) he's come to find out exactly how much his friends do mean to him. They're people he knows and trusts and loves.

Still, Philip can be very childish in his mannerisms, at least when it comes to research. He's used to readily having all information at his fingertips-- so he can come off as a know-it-all. If it's something he doesn't know, then Philip is usually entranced by the aspect. It's a stubborn singlemindedness that drives most of his character, really! Philip is very hard to argue with, at times, if he's actually up for arguing.
